About Kate:
- I was born in Texas and raised in Alaska. I have lived in Idaho, Israel and Arizona and am now back in the good ole Lone Star State …
- Amarillo, to be exact. On the Llano Estacado where the summers are harsh, the winters are worse, and the wind blows all the time.
- I love the wind.
- I also love that Amarillo can not only boast the Big Texan’s free 72 oz steak, it carries the following bragging rights: we put a Krispy Kreme out of business. Our local doughnuts are just. that. good.
- I have four children, no stretch marks and wear sizes I wore when I was 19 … all with only moderate exercise and a diet of Twix.
- Yes. Be jealous.
- Professionally, I am an RN. My specialty is STDs, but I’ve also worked Med-Surg and Emergency. If you have a terrible drips, strange growths, or your intestines pop out of your abdomen, I’m your girl. But eyeballs gross me out. It’s the only body part that can stare at you when you are trying to fix it. It can also melt. So if something happens to your eye, I’m not your girl. I’m will run from the room, vomiting on myself as I go.
- Professionally, I’m switching gears to writing. I just recently had my first published piece appear here. I’m proud of it. In print, its glossy. I like glossy.
- Except on my lips.
- I love avocados, artichokes and asparagus. It has nothing to do with the letter “A”.
- Speaking of the letter “A”, my first name is actually Amy. Kate is my nickname, derived from my middle name. So if you saw my photo and thought, “Hey, that chick looks like someone I went to high school with, but her name was Amy”, I just might be that chick.
- I read all the time. I scribble in the margins of important books. You’ll find my book reviews here and my scribbles In the Margins. It’s a little reservoir of tangents and a slapdash pile of links.
- Even though I study rhythm, I have no rhythm. I’m a white girl.
- I’ve been in formal ministry for the better part of the last decade. I led prophetic ministry and training, intercession, and taught various and a sundryof things ranging from Evangelism to Redemptive Gifts. I am currently on a [long] hiatus so I can focus on writing and homeschooling the kiddos.
- I’m not your typical Christian. I am an incorrigible nerd. I am edgy. I’m a perpetual nomad between spiritual and secular. I have no home except among weirdos.
- We’re homeschoolers. Don’t worry. My kids have friends and see the sun every so often.
- I’m still trying to work on this site, learning code as I go. I’m in the process of tweaking the pages for a more professional look and making the site easy to navigate. If you have ideas, PLEASE tell me (contact info below). In the meantime, I’m pressing into the fabulous guys at 8Bit and the guru of all things WordPress, Tentblogger.
You can read a little more about me here, but those are the highlights.
About One Thousand Drums:
My design is to see design. I’m not talking about architecture or graphic design but about the rhythm God uses to shape our lives.
The dictionary defines rhythm as “movement characterized by the regular alternation of different conditions”. In music, rhythm is the alternation of sounds and silences. In our lives, the cadence of Principles and Presence create the rhythm for abundant life.
So I write a lot about Principles. They are the laws God has set in motion. Like elements in chemistry, principles are the building blocks of everything from scientific law to the precepts that govern our relationships with each other, and with God. I’m not talking about legalism, I’m talking about physics. There are precepts in motion around us we can cooperate with or kick against, whether you are a believer or not. Kicking against them brings you unneeded trouble. Cooperating brings you unexpected solutions.
I write a lot about Presence: particularly the Fatherhood of God as well as His Sovereignty.
I have taken a challenge to spend a year exploring each of the nine fruits of the Spirit. One fruit per year. I’ve only just begun, but you can read about that here.

Email. I’d be excited to hear from you and get to know you. I’m a pretty rabid conversationalist, though, so be forewarned.
Follow me on twitter … it’s the private universe I keep in my pocket.
Google + . Not doing a whole lot there … yet. I’m still in the lurking and imitating stage. But I’m taking a fancy to it and would love to start hanging out there more. Prod me along, will ya?
